AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A Texas man was sentenced to 99 years in prison for killing his mom.
A Potter County jury found Matthew Ryan Hubbell, 42, guilty of murder.
The jury then sentenced the Amarillo man to 99 years and a $10,000 fine.
Police found the body of 62-year-old Doris Jane Burke-Love, on September 5, 2019, after a SWAT standoff with Hubbell at a home in the 1700 block of South Monroe Street.
According to court records, Hubbell told his best friend he killed his mom and kept her body in a bathtub for several days while he figured out what to do with it.
Hubbell said his mom's body was only beginning to smell, and he was using air freshener to combat the odor.
Burke-Love died from blunt force trauma to the head. Police found her body hidden in the crawl space.
There were bloodstains throughout the home, along with disinfectant and Febreze spray.
